Services with Comcast Cable
Ok, I am subbing to Comcast, got the full meal deal (read:$$$). How does one get the 5.1 Dolby Digital from the cable? I always had a fiber optic connection from sat and it worked fine. Do I need a special box?

I have a buddy around the corner that has the max-package w/digital . He must use a "digital de-coder box from Time Warner that coast xtra each month than the regular box to receive signals. The so-called "digital signal" is actually an analog singal that is compressed, processed, sent down the cable and de-compressed and de-processed into "digital' by the receiver box. Sooo, the digital is not true digital, it is a near digital audio source ! Also the picture suks on his cable as compared to direct tv signal. Direct tv, Dish, both tout a true digital signal, butt that is only if you rent one of their tivo boxes with an "optical" out ! I have a regular sat receiver (no optical out) and run the s-video cable from the sat ird into a "digital" dvd recorder that then processes it into a near digital audio signal that sounds fair, butt sometimes distorts the picture, don't know why it does that. Don't be fooled by the salesman hype, no optical out, no "true" digital ! ! ! Let me know how it sounds. . . .
